The celebration of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is based on a tradition that dates to the 6th century in the East and the 15th century in the West. In this tradition Mary was taken to the temple in Jerusalem and dedicated to God when she was 3 years old. This is celebrated each year because God chose to dwell in Mary in a very special way. Mary placed herself completely at the service of God.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To you do we cry,
poor banished children of Eve.
To you do we send up our sighs,

and after this exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
